12 Months

June 4, 2012

Pierce is 12 months old.

Pierce is a big boy now, and it is hard to believe that he is already one year old.  He mostly wears 6-12 month clothes, but he is in a larger size on some items.  He weighs about 18 pounds.  He wears a size 3 diaper and a size 4 shoe.  He has six teeth (two at the bottom and four at the top).

Pierce is quite talkative with his noises and words.  He is saying the following words:  Mama, Dada, Murree, gentle, ball, bye bye, hi, wow, kitty cat, milk, more, and a few others that aren't as consistently spoken.  He recognizes noises like the sound of birds, trucks, and thunder.  He is clustering like items together.  For example, he calls animals "Murree".  He calls all of his toys "ball".  He is using some sign language.  He mostly signs milk, more, and finished.

In the morning, Pierce wakes up calling for Murree.  As I enter his room, he says, "Murree".  Murree gets out of his dog bed and comes running into the room.  Pierce has learned that in the mornings I call Murree to let him outside.  Now, Pierce does the calling for me.

The doctor told us to continue to drink formula for the next few months because of his weight.  His percentile in weight has continued to go down, and he is now off of the charts.  We are working on getting in as many extra calories as we can.  Pierce usually eats bananas every day for breakfast.  He also likes oatmeal, cheerios and fruit loops, breakfast sausage, and apples.  We try to give him a variety of meat, fruits, vegetables, and grains for lunch and dinner.  He loves steak and rice.  He also has a sweet tooth just like his parents.  Cake is his favorite treat!

We are still taking his ISR swim lessons.  He has learned to flip to his back and float.  He can float for several minutes.  It's quite impressive.  Fortunately, mom has taken lots of pictures and videos to show him when he grows up.  He loves water.  He likes the bathtub, pools, splashpads, bubbles, etc.  He even likes to play in the dog's water bowl.  Water is so much fun!!!

Pierce has the entire house figured out.  He knows when the laundry room door is open, and he bolts over there to play in the dog's bowls.  He knows when the pantry is left open, and he can't wait to play in the recycling bin.  He loves to play in Mommy's vanity drawers in the bedroom.  In his room, he loves to dump all of his books off of his bookshelf.  He likes to play on the couch.  He has learned how to slide down the couch to get off of it.  He will bang on the windows in the living room and point outside.  When I pick him up, he often says, "bye bye" which is his way of saying, "Mommy, let's go somewhere."

Pierce loves to be outside.  He likes to listen to the sounds of nature, cars, and birds.  He loves to crawl in the grass and swing in his swing.  He likes to slide on his slide and chase his balls.  He enjoys getting out and getting lots of fresh air.

Pierce adores other children especially big kids.  He notices them everywhere we go.  He absolutely loves his big cousin, Eliska.  He is crawling, pulling up on things, and standing some.  I've noticed that he stands more around bigger kids.  He wants to do what they are doing.

Pierce could play with just about anything.  He loves his toys especially pool rings, his remotes and cell phones (old ones of Mommy and Daddy), trucks and anything with wheels, balls, and books.  He is happy to play with a box or a water bottle or anything that you throw his way.

Pierce is growing up so fast.  I see him as a toddler now instead of a baby.  He is still in his baby car seat, but we will be moving to the next one soon (as soon as he gets up to 22 pounds).  I love to see the world through his eyes as he explores everything around him.
