14 Months
August 4, 2012
Pierce is 14 months old. I cannot believe it. The most exciting event that has occurred this past month is Pierce learned to walk. He is most comfortable walking at home. He has a fast crawl so he definitely prefers to crawl at times.
I love this age because I can see that he is starting to soak up everything. Pierce's favorite animal at the zoo is the elephant. We read many animal books with elephants in them. If you ask him what an elephant does, he will make the noise and do the trunk motion. Yes, I get a lot of satisfaction seeing him do this. I can't wait to teach him so much more!
Pierce currently weights 18 pounds 14 ounces. Unfortunately, he is still off the charts for his weight. We are working hard to get him up there on the charts. He is on formula until 15 months, and we will reassess the situation then. We go to a GI specialist in late August so I look forward to seeing what he has to say about his situation. Since he is underweight, we are doing everything that we can to get him extra calories. He is taking prevacid which appears to be helping his appetite. He loves to eat rice. Rice is probably his favorite food aside from sweets. He will consistently eat rice, but most foods are hit and miss. He is 29 inches tall so it's time to move him to the next car seat. He wears a size 12 month clothes and a size 4 shoe.
Pierce is talking like crazy. He is trying to repeat everything that we say. He obviously doesn't get all of the syllables, but he is doing his best. His favorite thing to say right now is "bye bye". He wakes up in the morning and starts saying "bye bye" immediately. Once he is up, he is ready to go. Needless to say, we get out of the house each morning to do something. We had a busy month with a ton of fun activities such as going to the play scape, zoo, fish gallery, several parks, Memorial City Mall play area, etc. We also had several play dates; he loves to be around other kids.
Pierce had a new tooth come in yesterday which makes 7 teeth now. He also got a haircut this morning. His blonde curly hair is growing so fast! We taught him to throw the ball. It was so fun to sit with him in the playroom and have him throw his ball to Brad and me. Now, he throws everything. Oops! We are trying to differentiate the difference between balls and basically everything else. Yikes. He loves to write on his magnadoodle. He also likes to chew on the pen, but that's ok with me. He started off chewing books before he really developed an interest in them. Pierce loves music and dancing. He will dance during commercials, in the car, or anytime that he hears the slightest tune. He loves to play with his cars, trucks, and trains. Any toy with wheels is a big hit in our house right now.
Pierce is curious about everything around him. I love to watch him explore the space around us. He wants to touch everything. He likes to turn out the lights as we leave a room, turn on the lights as we enter a room, open any drawers that he can find, etc. He will play with anything too. The saying that kids could play sticks and boxes is so true. I am constantly giving him some random find from around the house to peak his interest.
I cannot believe that we are already in August, and Pierce is 14 months old. It's time to start thinking about what Pierce will wear for Halloween. Before we know it, I'll be shopping for his Christmas gifts! As the days fly by, I'm trying hard to take lots of photos and enjoy each and every moment! Pierce is a blessing in our lives, and I love him so much!
